WHAT: Volunteer makeup artist trainee opportunity on a Cirque du Soleil production.

WHEN: Positions are available in 2 weeks increments in Montreal, 2nd March to Mid-June and then in Toronto mid-June to mid-July.

HOW MUCH: This volunteer trainee position is free of charge and unpaid. Lodging and travel are the intern’s responsibilities.

I’ve been contracted as the sole makeup designer for a very high profile project done in conjunction with Cirque du Soleil and MAC cosmetics for which I’m assembling my team.

This is your opportunity to familiarise yourselves with how the Cirque du Soleil makeup departments works, including the different chains of responsibility. You will work with the lead makeup designer (e.i. me), my 1st assistant and different make-up artists on my team, building a network of useful contacts which may help you to get work in the future. This invaluable work experience will let you take your skills to the next level while continuing your training process.

Qualifications needed

We are looking for highly motivated, reliable and punctual applicants with a solid professional makeup training and good verbal and written English communication skills. French would be a strong asset.
You must :
  • Be capable of working independently and follow precise directions in a team environment.
  • Be comfortable working on several different projects at once, remaining calm and efficient under pressure.
  • Have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Know Microsoft Word and Excel well. Basic Photoshop and good social media skills a plus.


  • Assist and facilitates the work of the makeup designer, 1st assistant and different make-up artists on the team.
  • Move make-up kits between locations, setting up workstations and making sure they’re kept clean & tidy throughout the day.
  • Clean and lay out brushes, airbrush and products for the day ahead.
  • Compile product & tools lists, acquire necessary supplies and run errands.
  • Ensure that all reference materials are available.
  • Contribute to social media communications.
Workweek will vary according to need. You must be available to work anywhere from 6 to 12 hours per day with the occasional Saturday or Sunday.
