My stranded on a deserted island makeup product.

Though what I would do with makeup if I were stranded on a deserted island remains a little bit of a mystery…

But seriously.

The M.A.C. Gloss Crème Brillance.

If my stock drops below 3 tubes I start twitching and scratching manically. I just cannot be without it at work. In fact, if they ever discontinued it, I’m afraid I’d have to consider a career change.

Glossy cheeks, glossy lids, glossy legs. Here I come!

Clio Lipnicure product review

The bright colours attracted me and despite the unfortunate name and bulky packaging, I decided to get a couple of colours and give Clio Lipnicure a try.

Clio Lipnicure

This highly pigmented stuff dries up to a matte, bullet-proof finish and does not budge, feather or transfer untill you remove it with serious waterproof makeup remover. Compared with OCC Lip Tar, the Clio Lipnicure’s texture is creamier,  less oily and is drier and matter when set. It’s staying power would make it over kill for regular photo shoots when you want to change lip colours a few times during the day but for jobs when you need a vibrant and indestructible lip paint, this product would be an excellent choice.

Unfortunately, the colour range is limited and it is hard to come by in North America (I got mine at Koreatown mall in L.A.) but well worth the search. I regret not getting all 8 shades!

Inglot Duraline product review

As a die-hard mixer and blender, I’m always on the lookout for good mixing mediums and somehow Inglot Duraline had evaded me, until now.

After experimenting with it for a few days, I decided it is a good addition to my kit. The best thing about it: the tiniest drop will instantly revive dried up gel liner (these dry up so fast, I throw away loads barely used!) and turns loose pigments and shadows into an intense, waterproof and resistant eye paint.

Keep in mind though, as with most mixing medium, putting it directly into your pressed shadow pan will alter the shadow’s texture and eventually render it useless. So, if you choose to use it with pressed shadow, I recommend you scrape a little shadow on to a palette and do your mixing this way instead.

I have heard others recommend it as an eyeshadow base but I don’t find this to be an interesting use of Inglot Duraline.

Pros

  • great for reviving gel liners
  • good mixer for pigments and loose shadows
  • crease & smudge proof
  • waterproof
  • well sized for kit
  • paraben free
  • cruelty free
  • good value

Cons

  • slow to dry
  • silicone based*
  • lid seems fragile

* Silicone is great for texture but I prefer to avoid as much as possible as it is armful to the environment.

New favourite lip stuff!

I have a new favourite lip stuff ! Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector.

It’s a treatment, a protector, a pumper and a gloss all in one.

Its texture is light, soft and not sticky at all. It reflects light nicely but isn’t that shimmery at all, which I love as I’m not a big fan of shimmery lips. And it has just a hint of colour, my favourite being 02 apricot shimmer seen above. Great on its own but layers well over lipstick too. My only criticism, it’s a little too scented for my personal taste.

Now I have to buy another one for my kit as this one is mine alone!

No more excuses sun protection

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock SPF 70+

Finding a good facial sunblock with a high SPF which does not cause breakouts, isn’t greasy and doesn’t give off a weird whitish huge is hard enough but finding one which you could apply makeup on almost immediate and get top result was, in my experience, nearly impossible.

Then I discovered this fantastic new product by Neutrogena. I don’t know how they pulled it off but this new Helioplex technology is super performant. This stuff is waterproof, sweatproof, non-comedogenic, oil-free and PABA free. Perfect for sensitive skin. It is now my unavoidable “on location” pre-makeup moisturizer of choice. Try it you’ll love it!

They also make a body version called Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunblock which comes in SPF 85 & 100. This may sound high but if you’re standing in front of cameras in the sun all day you will need it. It has the same great properties has the face version. Its ultra-light formula is non-greasy and waterproof, sweatproof, and non-comedogenic. The continuous spray works at any angle to ensure easily and even application. And it won’t stain clothes either which makes for happy stylists.

So you really have no excuse anymore to leave the house without proper sun protection. Wear sunscreen!
